Office Hours & Time Off

Standard Office Hours

8:30am – 4:30pm Monday – Thursday and 8:30am – Noon on Fridays

If you office in the main Administrative Office building ("Hill Headquarters") you will generally be expected to be present during these hours, with the exception of a 1-hour lunch break.

Flex Time

We always do our best to ensure your workload is manageable within normal office hours so it's very rare that you would ever need to work outside these times. In the event you have to work late one day, you have the benefit of compensating with "Flex Time". For example: if you work until 5:30pm one day to meet a deadline, you may "flex" that time by not arriving until 9:30am the next morning.

Flex time must be taken within the same pay period it is earned and cannot be used to frequently alter your regular office hours.

Full policy: "Comp-time" vs. "Flex-time"

Vacation & Other Leave

Depending on your position, your allotted time off will look different. If you work in Direct Care, your schedule will typically be 3 weeks on, 1 week off. For all other positions, you will accrue vacation days and sick days based on your length of employment.

Submit leave requests through Calamari, our leave management platform. Make sure your supervisor approves your request before you leave!

Full policy: Vacation

Final Thoughts

We strive to make your time at work enjoyable and as flexible as possible. If you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed, don't hesitate to speak to your supervisor about it. You have a lot of fantastic people here ready to support you and help make your job easier!

A Little History

1963
The Elders of the Southlawn and Southside churches of Christ in Amarillo, Texas, determined that there was a definite need for additional child care facilities in the Texas Panhandle.
1964
Several interested Amarillo churches of Christ met to develop preliminary plans to establish a children's home. Many of the area churches pledged resources to assist in financing the future children's home. The Southlawn congregation was chosen to oversee and direct the new agency.
1967
After successfully completing the necessary Charter and Licensing requirements with the State of Texas, High Plains was ready to officially begin operations and accept the placement of children. The original land for the location of the Home was west of Amarillo, near Wildorado. However, due to concerns that the remote location and travel distance might be prohibitive, a new 40-acre property was acquired just south of the Amarillo city limits. By October of 1967, the first cottage was completed and High Plains Children's Home became a reality.
1970
In August of 1970, the Southlawn and Southside congregations merged to become what is known today as the Southwest church of Christ. At that time, it was decided that the new Board of Directors for High Plains Children's Home would be the Elders of the Southwest congregation. The Southwest Elders appoint the Home's Board of Directors, who are faithful church of Christ members, from various congregations in the area.
Today
High Plains is recognized as a prominent and productive agency serving the needs of children and adults with special needs from all occurrences of life.
